Stadium Review: Yankee Stadium

The House that Ruth Built. The history within it is truly incredible.

For some brief background, I am going to be reviewing different stadiums, arenas, etc. that I go to. It’ll include the experience, the atmosphere, and basically everything involved in going to a sporting event. This will often coincide with our new bit, “Sports Throne: On the Road” on our Instagram story.

The first stadium we visited live with the Sports Throne was Yankee Stadium, so I’ve decided it’s a great one to start reviews with. I have been to Yankee Stadium many many times, and I would say the experience here is unlike any other major league baseball stadium. Now I may be a bit biased, but the atmosphere of a Yankees game is just different.

These past few years when the Yankees have shown some promise and built back up into a World Series contender, it is louder than ever within the stadium’s walls. There’s something special about arriving there in the Bronx from the train, with everyone else looking to see the same thing you are, a Yankees win, and the fans will often not except anything less. Each game here is almost always packed, and the roar of the crowd when something good happens is louder than anywhere else I have experienced. From when they introduce the lineups to the “Star Wars” theme, to the stadium blasting “YMCA” every 6th inning, to hearing Frank Sinatra’s “Start Spreading the News” after every game all give me goosebumps every damn time. Nothing is more fun than doing roll-call with the bleacher creatures at the beginning of each game too.

I understand that the new stadium was built in 2009, but you can still feel the historic vibe while you are there, but almost with a more modern touch. Monument Park just past the center-field wall gives you a nostalgic tour of past legendary Yankees players, as the success of the franchise is rightfully put on display. As well, one of my favorite spots is the Yankees Museum, where they have artifacts from throughout their history, as well as a baseball signed by every man to ever suit up in the pinstripes.

Being at a Yankees game almost feels like a luxury experience, but at the same time, your senses will tell you that you are at any normal ballgame. Coming to the Bronx for a game is something every baseball fan must experience, after walking into the stadium and seeing its sheer size, and the famous facade at the top of the stadium will make you feel that you are in a historical landmark.
